A Dreamy town, Adrenaline and Descending the Alps

heliskiing_verbierSome people believe in relaxed, no pressure activities as the best option as you visit little Switzerland, and at times many would agree but let me convincingly dispute that. Adrenaline, according to me, is the true spice of life. Even more so, to get some pumping in your veins is the best way to know if your heart still beats perfectly fine. So as you travel to Switzerland, it might be prudent to leave some room for adrenaline in your activities.
Now, helicopter tours of the Alps are stunning: the velvety blankets of brilliant white snow shimmering in the sunlight, the dull and dark jagged volcanic rocks peeking out of these blankets; the perfect contrast to frame the perfect, enchanting image. All this being viewed in suspension hundreds of feet in the air. It is a relatively relaxed activity to engage in, and is poised to elevate your appreciation of all things natural. However, there is a formula to make trips like these even more memorable:

Site Seeing + Adrenaline = Thrilling, Pleasure filled Trip

Use this formula rightly with your helicopter tour and you get heliskiing. It is most likely many people have seen this adrenaline pumping activity on TV or in a magazine but haven’t had the faintest interest in it. Lets face it, most people think it too dangerous an activity to do; getting of a helicopter onto the top of an unmarked, steep snow covered mountain slope to make a descent to the base of the mountain using your skis or snowboard. It is, at first thought of it, quite frightful. This fear is legitimate only if there is no supervision. This isn’t the case though. Since the Swiss Alps are the prime destination for most extreme winter sports, there is professional qualified supervision that guides you through everything. This, coupled with all sorts of safety gear, buries all those worries so that you can focus on the experience itself.

There is no town as perfectly suited to this experience than Verbier, a pretty little resort village in the south west of Switzerland. Its praises cannot be sung more than by the number of professional skiers and snowboarders who have eventually settle in Vebier. Its steep slopes, pregnant with snow; some of the almost all year round. Its high elevations and numerous courses to be challenged by, make it a peach for amateurs and professionals alike. Its type of off-piste or back country skiing makes for great fun as you encounter the raw slopes; non designated skiing slopes that are outside resort boundaries. The number of hospitality options also offers enough temptation to draw you in to it as you await the itinerary for your next descent into the depths of the valleys below.

If you have a thirst for those adrenaline pumping moments or just that cat like curiosity, heliskiing in Vebier is an entry to add at the top of your bucket list. It is an experience in savouring the best of breathtaking nature and adrenaline combined.
